Official ATS Technical Statement on “Preschool Multiple-Breath Washout Testing” has been
published. It is reported that this technique is feasible for children 2 to 6 years age. The lack
of reference data in this age group requires that researchers collect a matched control
group. The paper gives important clues for manufacturers and users of this technique.
Collaborative research to obtain age-specific reference data for preschool children is
needed.
